Covid Updates

Revised Mask Policy
Beginning 1/17/2022

Due to the increased number of COVID-19 cases in Minnesota, we have revised our mask policy: We now REQUIRE well-fitted masks to be worn in our hospital. Therefore if you choose to be in-person for your pet's appointment, we need you to wear a mask. This policy is to keep our team safe/healthy and to keep us open to continue providing care for your pets. Thank you!

Phased Opening Plan
Beginning 6/21/2021

Starting the third week of June, we will begin allowing pet parents back into our building for veterinary appointments only. You will still have the option of curbside care for these appointments and in-person care will only be available if exam rooms are available. We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure both your safety as well as our own during this transition. It has been a long road and we are excited to see your faces again in our hospital. Here are a few things to remember with our plan:

  • First, our front door is still going to remain locked. We need to control the flow of people in and out of our building so when you arrive, please call our office to let us know you are here.
  • We are only allowing 2 people in the building for in-person veterinary appointments only at this time. This will help reduce crowding in our examination rooms.
  • Pets need to be secured with a leash (please no flexi-leads) or cats in a carrier for their safety.
  • We are highly recommending masks for everyone visiting the practice. However, we are following the CDC and state guidelines on mask guidance so if you are vaccinated, wearing a mask is optional.
  • Although we are allowing people back into the building, our workflow still will be different. Due to our small exam room sizes, some parts of your pet's care may still be in our treatment area to minimize the number of people in examination rooms. Don't worry, we will take just as good care as your pet as we have all last year and years prior!
  • Certain services and transactions will remain curbside. At this time only medical appointments with a doctor will have the option of in-person care as long as an examination room is available.
  • We will be sanitizing between all appointments so there is a chance that an examination room may not be available. Therefore, even if you request in-person care we may not be able to accommodate your request. Please understand we are doing our best to keep everyone safe and that we are doing everything we can to meet up to your expectations.
  • As always, we promise to deliver the same high quality loving care for your pet, regardless of where that care is delivered.

What to do next? As a part of this transition we are introducing a Pre-Appointment Questionnaire. This will help reduce time spent taking your pet's history and help reduce the time spent in our hospital. Please take the time to complete this form in advance of your pet's appointment:

Pre-Appointment Questionnaire

As of 7/21/2020

Our last COVID update was confusing regarding our current and ongoing operations at Hudson Road Animal Hospital. We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused.

We are continuing curbside service for you and your pet for the foreseeable future. Our current workflow and protocols have kept our team healthy and our business operational. Our primary objective throughout this pandemic has been the safety of our team, clients and our patients. We are considering ways to see all of your faces again, but until that time we appreciate all your understanding and patience with our curbside service.

We sincerely thank you for your continued support during these difficult times. We our doing our absolute best to provide the same high quality care for each and every pet we see.

As a result of the pandemic and our curbside service, our hospital is experiencing an unprecedented amount of calls, emails and appointments. We are doing everything we can to accomodate as many pets each day without compromising our standard of care or values. Please consider the following when you are contacting our office:

  • Routine care visits (such as vaccine / wellness appointments) are booking out 2 or more weeks.
  • We have reserved appointment slots in our schedule for sick pets. However, these spots have been filling up almost immediately in the morning. There is a chance that we may not be able to see your pet for an illness on the same day (or even the next day).
  • We have revitalized our phone triage to prioritize sick pets to ensure they are seeing in a timely manner. However, if all available sick pet slots are taken we may need to refer you to a local emergency clinic for more immediate care to ensure the best possible outcome for your furry friend.
  • It is common for all of our phone lines to be busy. This means extended hold times or being unable to connect to us altogether. We appreciate your patience as we work through each call with the attention it deserves. If you are unable to connect with us, please leave us a voice message and a team member will get back to you as soon as possible. If your pet is ill and you do not feel you can wait for a call back, please try calling our office back after a short time.
  • We have rigid sick protocols in place to ensure our team stays safe and healthy. We have had many team members sick over the last 3 months. Their absence results in less staffing and consequently less flexibility with our appointment schedule.
  • This has been an industry-wide problem. Many other small animal hospitals are struggling with appointment availability and wait time at the local emergency clinic can be several hours or more. One of the local emergency clinics has been closed for 2 months which has put strain on all other local emergency clinics.

Again, we truly appreciate all your understanding and patience as we face this pandemic together. Please contact our office if you have any questions or concerns, we are always happy to help,

Thank you to all your support and patience as our hospital has continued to navigate the COVID-19 Pandemic. Since May we have started re-opening our core services in a gradual step-wise fashion.

  • The grooming salon opened May 4th.
  • Elective Surgeries resumed May 11th.
  • Boarding services resumed on May 18th with rules and restrictions in place regarding pet's food/medications/belongings in-hospital.

As long as COVID-19 numbers improve in Minnesota, we plan on allowing re-entry of pet parents into our building. This will be a very gradual process with increasing levels of interaction with our team over time. Our primary objective throughout this pandemic has been the safety of our team, clients and our patients. Our current workflow and protocols have kept our team healthy and our business operational.

We will not return to "normal," rather a new normal to ensure everyone's safety and the safety of business operations. When we begin this transition, it will be paramount that you avoid visiting our office if any of the following are true:

  • You have recently traveled in the last two weeks,
  • You have COVID-19,
  • You or someone you know has been exposed to COVID-19,
  • Or, if you are in quarantine yourself.

If any of the above statements are true, please contact our office to speak to a team member. Depending on your pet's history with us, we may provide alternative options to help you and your pet.

We appreciate all of your understanding throughout this process and are looking forward to seeing you all again. Please contact our office with any questions or concerns you may have, we are always happy to help,

Effective as of 3/27/2020

Dear Friends,

Yesterday, Governor Tim Walz declared a state wide stay at home order which is effective Friday 3/27/2020 11:59 PM to Friday 4/10/2020 11:59 PM.

We have been monitoring and adapting to all the federal and state regulations over these last couple weeks. During this time our operating protocols have changed dramatically while the quality of our veterinary medicine has remained the same.

Now more than ever we need to embrace the efforts to slow this rapidly spreading disease. As a result of this pandemic and the executive orders, we have made changes to our following services:

  • There will be no boarding until further notice.
  • There will be no elective surgical procedures until further notice.
  • There will be no grooming appointments during the duration of the stay at home order.
  • We have limited our appointment schedule to doctor visits only, which means nail trims and anal gland appointments will have to wait unless there is medical reason otherwise.

We are still continuing important preventative and wellness services for your pet as we see this as an integral component of disease prevention and public health protection.

Over the following week(s), we may change our operating hours to ensure we have adequate team members to help you and your pet.

We have asked and continue to ask anyone visiting the office to stay at home if:

  • You have recently traveled in the last two weeks,
  • You or someone you know has been exposed to COVID-19,
  • Or, if you are in quarantine yourself.
  • If you fall into any of these unfortunate categories, please contact our office to speak to a team member. Depending on your pet's history with us, we may provide alternative options to help your pet without a visit to our office.

We appreciate all of our friends and supporters that have stood by us during these hard times. We truly miss seeing all of you and we are looking forward to the day when we can see you again. Please contact our office with any questions or concerns you may have, we are always happy to help,

These are unprecedented times calling for unprecedented measures to help slow the transmission of COVID-19 in our community. As veterinarians it is our job to ensure that not only your pets are healthy and safe, but that we help protect the public health as well.

Throughout the development of this pandemic, we have changed our operating protocols to minimize time spent in our lobby and interactions between people in our building. As this situation continues to unfold and to observe the best level of social distancing, we have decided to limit access to our hospital to employees only. Rest assured we are still open and ready to care for your pet for whatever they need.

To help you understand our process better, please refer to the following plan we have in place. It is our objective to continue to provide excellent quality care for you and your pet while helping maintain safe distances to keep you and our team healthy.

We will keep our front door locked with this plan in full view:

    1. When scheduling or confirming your appointment, our client service team members will advise you to remain in your car upon arrival to our hospital.

    2. When you have arrived, please call our office and a team member will come to your car to escort your pet into the hospital.

    3. All dogs must be on leash and cats in carriers.

    4. Once in the building a team member will contact you to get some history on how your pet is doing at home, what you would like done today, and collect any questions you might have.

    5. During this time we will bring your pet to an examination room where the doctor will perform an examination. The doctor will then contact you regarding the examination findings, recommendations, and any perceived follow-up care.

    6. After your pet's visit is complete, a client services representative will contact you to help facilitate payment for any services your pet received.

    7. Finally, a team member will escort your pet back to the car.

If you are coming to our office to pick up a prescription or food, please stay in your car and a team member can bring these items out to you.

In certain situations, such as euthanasia, you may be allowed access to the building by a team member and we would immediately bring you to an examination room to minimize time spent in our lobby.

All of our efforts here at Hudson Road Animal Hospital have been to protect you and to protect our team from the spread of COVID-19. We consider veterinarians essential to pet health and public health and we will continue to serve you and your pet with the same level of quality and compassion as always.

Although we will miss seeing all of your friendly faces, we are optimistic that we will be through this crisis soon and will continue building long-lasting relationships with both you and your pet.

Please contact us if you have any questions about our plans, your pet, or concerns you may have,

Dear pet friends and parents,

At Hudson Road Animal Hospital, the health and well-being of our patients, their owners and our employees is our top priority. We have been closely watching the evolving situation with COVID-19. During this time of uncertainty, we are making certain that you and your pet can receive the care they need to stay healthy and be safe in the process.

We are following all state and federal guidelines in response to the COVID-19 spread. As the situation continues to develop we may make changes in our medical practice and case flow.

In the meantime, we ask that you refrain from coming to our hospital if you, or anyone with whom you have had close contact, has any of the following symptoms:

  • Sore throat
  • Coughing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fever

We also ask that you do your best to practice social distancing both are our hospital and in the community. Additionally, please limit the number of people you bring to your pet's appointments.

If your pet has an emergency and you are sick, please let us know so that we can take steps to see you and your pet in a safe manner.
